Henk has been a big advocate for ExtraContent themes and has managed to add ExtraContent in just about every theme he has released in the last 6 months. STALKER, Henk’s latest RapidWeaver theme, has 4 ExtraContent areas that allow the user to add more content then RapidWeaver typically allows — EC1, above the Menu. You can use this area for some textlines or your logo. With a CSS code you can fill this area with any image cor colour — EC2, below the Menu. This area floats together with the menu and can be filled with text, images or a logo. — EC3, above the Footer. — EC4, below the Footer.

Will Woodgate from ThemeFlood takes what I believe is his first foray into ExtraContent theme development with his latest theme, NewsMedia. Will has taken the ExtraContent concept to the extreme with up to 15 possible ExtraContent areas in NewsMedia.

Will doesn’t stop there, mind you, as NewsMedia is packed with professional features like style switchers, mega-menus and horizontal scrolling menu bars.

And last but not least, old RapidWeaver theme star, MultiThemes is back in the game with Panels Pro, a theme that makes use of 2 ExtraContent areas. True to MultiThemes form, this theme is high and style and lush with all the finishing touches. Like a fine Italian automobile, MultiThemes leaves no corner unpolished.

Imagine from WeaverThemes is a highly polished and styled to perfection RapidWeaver theme that employs a sexy bit of javascript animation to tuck away and hide one of it’s ExtraContent areas in a drop down panel at the top of the screen — very cool. Imagine also has an ExtraContent area below the main content.

Slider

RWT’s Slider takes another innovative approach to ExtraContent in the form of a sliding banner. We’ve all seen them before but propagating them with content has always been a hassle. RWT has taken the ugly out of coding a sliding banner and made it ExtraContent easy. It can now be as simple as adding text to any page or sidebar that allows for styled content.

One other thing that sets Sleeker apart is the split-hybrid navigation system that allows nested pages to be displayed both in a tidy drop down and in a vertical sidebar format. For more information, check out Sleeker Ultimate.

TW009 makes use of two EC areas, a pre-content and post content area that are visually separate from the main body of content but sharing the same design characteristics.

Another unique feature of TW009 is it’s header which can display up to 5 header images at once. Very cool. Check out the new and improved TW009.

Working With Stacks

In this screen cast we are going to give a quick introduction to the ExtraContent Stacks plugin, so before you start, you are going to need Stack from YourHead Software and the free ExtraContent Stacks Plugin.

Playing around with the Stacks API last night brought me to that very end. I wrote the ExtraContent Stacks Plugin, a Stacks Library component that you just drag into your stack page like you would any other stack. Click the info button, enter the value ExtraContent area you want it to occupy and that’s it. Just build what you want inside that stack… images, code, columns… and when you preview it in your ExtraContent enabled theme it renders in the ExtraContent area of your choice!

So what makes this so cool is that now ExtraContent is for everyone. I mean we did a pretty good job of making it as user friendly as possible with the tiny snippets of code, but there are some who will still get a little queasy at the site of that four letter word, code. So this option of using ExtraContent as a stack really is the way to go for those people.
