When you have more than two things to say...

ExtraContent is an open source method for getting additional content into places that most content management systems CMS can't reach.

It was developed by a small innovativer group of RapidWeaver theme developers looking to extend the abilities of RapidWeaver beyond the two content areas typically allowed.

Many blog engines and CMS software are often limited to content being added to in either the main content area or the sidebar.

3 More ExtraContent themes, and 2 New Players.

This has been a heck of a few weeks for ExtraContent enabled themes. We’ve just seen the release of new themes from WeaverThemes and RWT, and now we have 3 more new ExtraContent themes from MultiThemes, ThemeFlood and Henk Vrieselaar.

Stalker from Henk VrieselaarHenk has been a big advocate for ExtraContent themes and has managed to add ExtraContent in just about every theme he has released in the last 6 months. STALKER, Henk’s latest RapidWeaver theme, has 4 ExtraContent areas that allow the user to add more content then RapidWeaver typically allows — EC1, above the Menu. You can use this area for some textlines or your logo. With a CSS code you can fill this area with any image cor colour — EC2, below the Menu. This area floats together with the menu and can be filled with text, images or a logo. — EC3, above the Footer. — EC4, below the Footer.

Check out STALKER.

ThemeFlood releases NewsMediaWill Woodgate from ThemeFlood takes what I believe is his first foray into ExtraContent theme development with his latest theme, NewsMedia. Will has taken the ExtraContent concept to the extreme with up to 15 possible ExtraContent areas in NewsMedia.

Will doesn’t stop there, mind you, as NewsMedia is packed with professional features like style switchers, mega-menus and horizontal scrolling menu bars.

Check out NewsMedia.

MultiThemes is back with Panels ProAnd last but not least, old RapidWeaver theme star, MultiThemes is back in the game with Panels Pro, a theme that makes use of 2 ExtraContent areas. True to MultiThemes form, this theme is high and style and lush with all the finishing touches. Like a fine Italian automobile, MultiThemes leaves no corner unpolished.

Mellow appears to have 4 ExtraContent areas, one in the header, one in the sidebar, one below the content and one in the footer area.

Henk releases ExtraContent enabled “Magazine”

magazineEarlier this week, Henk Vrieselaar released another addition to the ExtraContent enabled theme field with his latest release, Magazine. Sporting what looks like two ExtraContent areas and a metric butt-load of other options, Magazine looks like it’s packed and ready for action.

We haven’t seen any screen casts from Henk yet, but if we do you can be sure they will get posted here.

New ExtraContent themes in the wild

dscribeSome really exciting ExtraContent news sprang up over the weekend. First, an ExtraContent-ish sort of theme popped up from Rapid Refills called D Scribe. While Nick, Rapid Refills developer, doesn’t go so far as to call it ExtraContent enabled, it does use similar technology. Nick prefers to call his implementation “Blurbs” instead, but the idea is the same by adding extra content in one place and having it show up in another. Perhaps if we all lean on him a little, he’ll make the implementation common to what we now enjoy in ExtraContent making the experience a familiar one… ;) Anyhow, you can join the RapidWeaver forum discussion here.

bohemianThe next ExtraContent enabled theme to pop up over the weekend was Bohemian from RapidWeaver developer extraordinaire, Henk Vrieselaar. Bohemian is an official ExtraContent theme that makes use of 4 ExtraContent areas; one above and below the main content area (useful for blogs, photo albums, contact forms and Kwix pages without much in the way of content options), one above the footer and one in the sidedbar. In addition to ExtraContent Henk has packed this theme full of many other options such as over 30 header options and effects, over 60 background options for various areas of the page, font control, width variations, banner zest integration and much more. Henk has poured a lot into this theme so you owe it to yourself to check it out. Join the discussion on the RapidWeaver forum here.
